A Generalist and Multidisciplinary Approach

KROS RTS: traditional race with children in Madrid. Event coordinated by the Spanish-Serbian Cultural Association Ivo Andrić.

History of the RTS Cross

The idea of the Radio Belgrade Cross was conceived in the autumn of 1990. In the winter of the same year, Nikola Mirkov, director of Radio Belgrade, gave permission to start the competition. On April 20, 1991, the first Radio Belgrade Cross was held at the Sremska Mitrovica racecourse. It was the first time that Radio Belgrade broadcast a cross country competition, which lasted four hours and 45 minutes..

Cross Radio Belgrade quickly evolved to become the most crowded event in southeastern Europe. It was then renamed RTS Cross.

In 2000, the RTS Cross changed its name: "Let Serbia run" (today's RTS Cross for Serbia). On April 15, 518,700 students ran in 147 municipalities in Serbia at the same time, which was on a par with a Guinness record. He even received written congratulations from the President of European Athletics, Finland's Karl Olaf Homen..

On April 7, 2001 the "RTS Cross in the Diaspora" came to life. Serbian children ran in eight European countries: France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Germany, Denmark and Sweden..

The complete transformation of the RTS Cross was completed in 2007. After 16 years, the final was partially moved from Sremska Mitrovica, which means, it became the final of five competitions, five Saturdays in a row for the RTS Cross Series of the Radio Belgrade Grand Prix. Then with "RTS Cross for Serbia" and "RTS Cross in the Diaspora", two camps were formed for children from the Diaspora and "Aleksandar Petrović" for young gifted runners from 12 to 17 years old. Thanks to these changes, RTS Cross lives year-round..
