A Generalist and Multidisciplinary Approach

A story about stem cells, told through 2D animation.

It all started when I was talking to J.L. Mazuelas (president of Vidaplus) about creating a video story on stem cells, it extraction, preservation process and benefits. Then I came up with an idea that I put to him for consideration: why not tell the story from the point of view of the newborn child from whom the stem cells from the umbilical cord are extracted? He thought the idea was perfect and we got to work. My first step was to start the interviews that would serve to gather all the information needed to write the script.

When the script was finished and approved, I started sketching the characters. On the other hand, I made a phone call to Idamor Fernandez, a very talented boy that I always had in mind, because I knew he would be the perfect voice for this idea. The proposal was very well received and he accepted. So one day I went to his house with my portable audio recorder. Once inside his room, we improvised a recording studio and the voice-over began. Then the magic happened! Idamor read a fragment of the script and in the second round, he recorded it all in one shot. It was so fast and perfect that even his own astonished parents exclaimed: -"Are you finished already!"

Idamor Fernandez's incredible voiceover was a perfect fit for the stem cell story. The photos correspond to the moment of the recording in 2014. Photography by © EQfuentes.

Then I started the animation work taking the voiceover as a reference. Then I added a musical background and some sound effects to finish the project. Below is the final video that we all enjoyed very much.
